The team includes pediatric specialists in more than 45 specialties, many of whom serve on the faculty of the George Washington University School of Medicine.

The team offers state of the art cardiac imaging, interventional cardiology and electrophysiology, cardiac surgery, and cardiac intensive care. Led by cardiology experts Gerard Martin, MD, Charles Berul, MD, and cardiac surgeon Richard Jonas, MD, Children’s National Heart Institute is a premier referral center for patients from around the world.
The Children’s National team recognizes and treats the full range of digestive, liver, and nutritional disorders in infants, children, and teens. In order to address these complex conditions, Children’s offers specialized programs for celiac disease, feeding disorders, helicobacter pylori disease, intestinal rehabilitation, and hepatology.
Children’s National offers families access to the largest clinical genetics program in the United States. The internationally recognized Genetics program, led by Marshall Summar, MD, provides world class care and support for patients with complex malformation syndromes, inborn errors of metabolism, and many other rare genetic diseases. Children’s National is also the home of the Center for Genetic Medicine Research, which leads international studies in rare diseases including Duchenne muscular dystrophy and inborn errors of metabolism.
The Neurology and Neurosurgery teams specialize in neurological disorders including disease, trauma, and malformation of the brain, spine, or nervous system. The team includes recognized leaders in minimally invasive techniques, and serves as an international referral destination for pediatric brain tumors, including neurofibromatosis, and epilepsy disorders. The Neurology and Neurosurgery teams apply the latest imaging and diagnosis techniques, including intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging and functional MRI to diagnose and treat neurological disorders with greater precision. The divisions of Neurology and Neurosurgery are led by Roger Packer, MD (Neurology), and Robert Keating, MD (Neurosurgery).
Children’s National Oncology and Hematology programs feature family-centered clinical care, leadership in preeminent research, and exceptional opportunities for patients to participate in national and international clinical trials. Children’s National is one of the few hospitals in the world with comprehensive teams that specialize in treating leukemia, solid tumors, and brain tumors. Children’s National is a primary site for Children’s Oncology Group, one of the world’s leaders in pediatric focused phase 1 clinical trials in oncology. Jeffrey Dome, MD, PhD is the chief of both Oncology and Hematology.
